Children and Premature Gray Hair

Premature gray hair in children may be the result of a child's genetic traits. Gray hair can appear with neurofibromatosis and tuberous sclerosis.
The most common cause may be vitamin B12 deficiency. A lack of vitamin B12 can occur due to the body's inability to absorb B12. Anemia condition and some diseases affecting the small may affect B12 deficiency. A simple blood test can diagnose current vitamin B12 deficiency.
Other conditions that may cause B12 problem could be thyroid disorders, particularly hyperthyroidism. Skin pigmentation disorders can also result in a loss of hair pigmentation.
Premature white hair or gray hair may indicate a child's internal problem and should be investigated, especially in children and young adults.
